Helen's Happy Hens

Pure breed Chickens, Bantams, Cockerels & Hatching Eggs

The Farm

We are a family run farm in the heart of the English countryside on the border of Essex and Suffolk. We produce all our own eggs and our Hens and cockerels are treated like pets!

We started the chicken farm around 5 years ago with just a few hens to begin with. We now have many varieties of beautiful birds and hatching eggs for sale.

Hens & Chickens

All eggs are believed fertile, turned daily and will be packaged in polystyrene boxes when posted.

Speckled Sussex

The Speckled Sussex has a great personality, they are docile, pretty, friendly, curious, intelligent and fantastic egg layers.

Norfolk Grey

After almost dying out in the early 1970s this beautiful bird has been revived and continues to amaze me with its beauty. The Norfolk Grey Cockerel has a beautiful silver hackle and the hen has rich black feathering which is laced around the throat. They lay medium sized eggs and are great foragers.

Welsummer

Originating from a small village called Welsum the Dutch breed Welsummer chickens are a stunning, intelligent and friendly breed. The Welsummer chicken lays large dark terracotta eggs.

Blue Orpington

A very docile placid bird that tolerates being handled thus making it an ideal back garden pet for children.

Due to their size, they are not very flighty, or agile so high fencing is not required.

They look large but this is actually due to a very thick layer of soft feathers. They are not the best of layers may be only laying approximately 130 eggs per annum.

Light Sussex

The Light Sussex chicken is a docile but alert but breed that are good foragers that can adapt to any surrounding easily. They lay large eggs which are cream to light brown in colour. The Light Sussex is one of the oldest breeds that are still in existence today.

Silver Spangled Hamburg

The Silver Spangled Hamburg is a small or medium-sized breed. With slender legs and a neat rose comb. Ring size is 16 mm for cocks and 15 mm for hens. Eleven different colour varieties are recognised in Germany and Holland, including Silver Spangled, Golden Spangled, Golden Pencilled, Citron Pencilled, Silver Pencilled, White, Black and Citron Spangled six of these are included in the American standard of perfection. Penciled breeds are smallest and self-coloured birds are largest. There are also Bantam Hamburgs.
