The Farm

We are a family run farm in the heart of the English countryside on the border of Essex and Suffolk. We produce all our own eggs and our Hens and Cockerels are treated like pets.

We started the chicken farm around 5 years ago with just a few hens to begin with. 

We have many varieties of beautiful birds and hatching eggs for sale by appointment only.

Hens & Chickens

All eggs are believed fertile, turned daily and will be packaged in polystyrene boxes when posted.

The Speckled Sussex has a great personality, they are docile, pretty, friendly, curious, intelligent and fantastic egg layers.

Blue Splash Brahma

Blue Splash Brahma

The Brahma originated from America and were bred for egg laying and meat.
They are large placid trusting birds that are easily tamed. They do not fly so fencing doesn’t have to be high just fox proof. They are not a noisy breed as they are not fanatic crowers. They will lay around 4/5 eggs per week and unlike other breeds they often lay through October to May

Crested Cream Legbar

The Crested Cream Legbar are a small to medium size breed. The female has a tufted crest on the top of her head.
They are friendly curious birds and lay a large number of blue-green eggs which are large in size and can number 230 per year.
An advantage of this breed is that they are an autosexing breed so you know the sex of the day old chicks. The boys are grey and the girls are dark brown with a distinctive strip.

Blue Orpington

A very docile placid bird that tolerates being handled thus making it an ideal back garden pet for children.

Due to their size, they are not very flighty, or agile so high fencing is not required.

 

They look large but this is actually due to a very thick layer of soft feathers. They are not the best of layers maybe only laying approximately 130 eggs per annum.

Light Sussex

The Light Sussex chicken is a docile but alert breed that are good foragers that can adapt to any surrounding easily. They lay large eggs which are cream to light brown in colour. The Light Sussex is one of the oldest breeds that are still in existence today.

Silver Spangled Hamburg

The Silver Spangled Hamburg is a small or medium-sized breed. With slender legs and a neat rose comb. Ring size is 16mm for cocks and 15mm for hens. Eleven different colour varieties are recognised in Germany and Holland, including Silver Spangled, Golden Spangled, Golden Pencilled, Citron Pencilled, Silver Pencilled, White, Black and Citron Spangled six of these are included in the American standard of perfection. Penciled breeds are smallest and self-coloured birds are largest. There are also Bantam Hamburgs.

Buff Orpington

Buff Orpington

The Buff Orpington are non flying gentle giants of the chicken world. They are calm and brave and lay around 200 – 280 eggs per year. Pullets start to lay around 5-7 months of age, they lay medium to large brown eggs.

Silver Laced Orpington

The Silver Laced Orpington is a very popular breed for families, despite their amazing size they are a quiet cuddly loving breed. Their feathers are dark with a beautiful silver lacing around the edge.

White Orpinton LF

White Orpington

The White Orpington are known for their gentle temperament and beautiful white plumage. They are a large breed and lay around 200 – 250 eggs per year.

White Orpington eggs are light brown or pinkish tinted.

This calm, gentle breed make beautiful pets.

The Silver Laced Wyandotte is a small calm bird known for its beautiful black and silver laced patten. These friendly, intelegent birds are reliable egg layers.

Gold Laced Wyandotte LF

Gold Laced Wyandotte are bantams that are friendly without being too docile. They are easy to handle and packed with personality.  This breed are good egg layers and their beautiful golden black laced feathers really make then stand out.

Lavender Brahma LF

Lavender Brahma

The Lavender Brahma are big beautiful birds known for their unique lavender plumage. They have a gentle nature earning them the nickname ‘gentle giants’ of the chicken world.

They have feathered feet, are broad built making them cold-hardy birds.

French Copper Black Moran LF

French Copper Black Maran

French Copper Black Marans are a large fowl breed that lay beautiful sought after dark brown eggs. They are a gentle breed with a striking black plumage and shiney copper coloured neck.

Mixed Colour Silkies Bantam

Mixed Colour Silkies

These small fluffy chickens come in a variety of colours including blue, black, white and partridge. They have soft fluffy feathers and can be really cuddly.

This breed will need adequate shelter as their feathers are not waterproof.

Salmon Wyandotte Bantam

A very sweet miniature version of the stunning Salmon Wyandotte chicken breed. They have a striking salmon coloured plumage and excellent egg layers or average-sized eggs.

Due to their docile, sweet and friendly nature, they make excellent pets.

Millefleur Pekin Bantam

Known for their distinctive and varied colours the Millefleur Pekin is a really beautiful breed.  They are known for being docile, easily tamed and friendly. They are ideal for small spaces due to their size, and if you want chicks, they are excellent broody hens.

They require basic care, including a coop for sleeping and a run for exercise.

Red Mottled Leghorn

Red Mottled Leghorns are a rare but beautiful breed. They are alert and active, and brilliant egg layers.

They are energetic, athletic birds (very hard to get a picture of)

This breed matures quickly and can be easily trained.

Buff Columbian Brahma

The Buff Columbian Brama is a distinctive, large but gentle breed known as the ‘King of chickens. Brahmas are hardy birds and can adjust to different climates.

They make great family pets as they are known for thier docile, calm nature.
